The Schukei family has been operating Iowa automobile dealerships on a continual basis for the last 70 years. The legacy started before 1932 when Clarence H. Schukei traveled the southern part of Iowa looking for people who owned automobiles that were in need of repairs.
These were before the days of automotive dealerships and repair facilities. Soon he was an automotive dealer, first in Mason City, Iowa and then in Waterloo, Iowa.
Robert A. Schukei grew up in Mason City, Iowa until his family moved to Waterloo where he spent his formative years either in his family business or hunting and fishing across North America with his father Clarence.
After a very short stint in the services, Robert returned to Waterloo, and in 1964 started his own dealership in Mason City, Iowa; Bob Schukei Ford in the same building once occupied by his father at 202 1st St. SE.
After a short period, Robert Schukei added Lincoln and Mercury and then built a new facility at 721 So. Monroe. In 1980 he purchased the Chevrolet franchise and gave his Ford franchise to his long time partner.
Steven R. Schukei was around automobiles all his life. After graduation from the University of Iowa he joined his father and eventually asked for and received the position of General Manager of the newly formed Schukei Chevrolet in 1980. Ten years later he started First Credit which has grown over the years to the largest private finance company in North Iowa.
Today Robert serves as Chairman of the Board and Steven is the President of the corporation. Schukei Chevrolet has over fifty employees with annual sales in excess of twenty million dollars.
